<p>The <a href="https://hydrachain.org/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Hydra blockchain</a> project has announced an upcoming major protocol upgrade called HydraGon that aims to implement technical and economical innovations on its network. According to Hydra&#39;s development team, HydraGon could propel Hydra into becoming a top 100 blockchain protocol and serious contender in the space.</p><p>One of the main goals stated for HydraGon is helping resolve the &#34;blockchain trilemma&#34; that many projects face when balancing decentralization, security and scalability. This level of speed and capacity could make Hydra better suited for high-volume decentralized apps related to DeFi, NFTs and metaverse projects if delivered.</p><p>According to Hydra, HydraGon will maintain a permissionless architecture allowing anyone to run network nodes. The protocol also utilizes coin holder voting for on-chain DAO governance via a sustainable treasury that can be used for strategic investments in the interest of the ecosystem. The nakamoto coefficient node algorithm also provides groundbreaking network stability and security.</p><h2 id="header-0">Additional HydraGon Features</h2><p>Beyond improvements to scalability and decentralization, Hydra outlines a number of other features planned with the HydraGon upgrade:</p><ul><li>Upgraded Consensus Mechanism - Transitioning to a Delegated Proof-of-Stake (DPoS) model that combines stake-weighted node voting with a reputation system and punishment mechanisms designed to improve security and liveness.</li><li>Interoperability - Planning to introduce interchain communication between Hydra and external blockchains like Ethereum, allowing transfer of data and assets.</li><li>Ecosystem Support - HydraGon upgrade will be accompanied by expanded documentation, tools and support to attract developers building dApps to the blockchain.</li><li>Leveraged Staking - A groundbreaking feature that allows for boosted staking income via leveraged positions that are free from liquidation risk.</li><li>Instant Borrowing - Unique protocol level borrowing capabilities that allow instant LYDRA borrowing against staked HYDRA with passive income.</li><li>DAO Governance - An operational DAO enables strategic scaling through decentralized governance.</li></ul><h2 id="header-1">Ambitious Goals for HydraGon</h2><p>Through features like these, Hydra has ambitious goals for what HydraGon can accomplish. The project aims for HydraGon to deliver an advanced, high-performance blockchain infrastructure for real-world usage.</p><p>While the protocol is still young, having launched in 2020 by a team with over 10 years in crypto development, the project expects foundational upgrades like HydraGon will help drive rapid adoption growth in coming years. However, as with any new technology, it remains to be seen how well these planned improvements translate into actual implementation and user traction once launched.</p><h2 id="header-2">Growing a Supporter Base</h2><p>In order to achieve its adoption goals, Hydra will need to grow its community of supporters, users and validators. To date, the protocol claims to have over 700 node operators helping secure the network across the globe.</p><p>Major exchange KuCoin also runs a Hydra validator node and staking pool, providing trust and visibility. But beyond early partners like KuCoin, attracting smaller developers, users and node operators will be key for decentralized growth. This makes developer-focused upgrades like planned with HydraGon crucial.</p><p>The path forward will likely have ups and downs as Hydra looks to garner increasing utility and value for its HYDRA coin. Its community maintains ambitious hopes for Hydra becoming a top 10 or even top 5 blockchain protocol over the long term.
