AI Chatbot Safety Measures Bypassed by &#39;Suffix Attacks&#39; US-based scholars from the Center for <a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/crypto-currency-news/ais-quest-for-world-domination-halted-by-math-problems" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">AI</a> Safety and Carnegie Mellon University have uncovered a troubling flaw in the security measures of leading AI chatbots such as <a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/crypto-currency-news/chatgpt-invades-android-a-potential-threat-to-googles-reign" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">ChatGPT</a> and Google Bard, according to a study unveiled on July 27.The researchers demonstrated a loophole wherein extensive suffixes of characters added to prompts could overcome the safety mechanisms of the chatbots. By exploiting this vulnerability, they could prompt AI systems to deliver harmful content.In an unsettling example, researchers asked the chatbot to furnish instructions on creating a bomb. While the request was predictably denied initially, the introduction of a character-rich suffix perusaded the AI into bypassing its own safety measures.This study indicates that despite stringent safety precautions, these Language Learning Models (LLMs) developed by AI titans such as Google and OpenAI are susceptible to such &#39;suffix attacks&#39;. The researchers pointed out that while blocking specific suffixes might be a temporary fix, it fails to avert all potential threats of this nature.The report raises serious concerns about the misuse of AI chatbots, underscoring the risk of using these platforms as conduits for disseminating harmful content and misinformation on a massive scale. &#34;There is no obvious solution. You can create as many of these attacks as you want in a short amount of time,&#34; said Zico Kolter, a Professor at Carnegie Mellon and one of the report&#39;s authors.The findings were shared with prominent <a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/crypto-currency-news/japan-firms-to-reveal-metaverse-projects-know-why" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">AI developers</a>, including Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI.
