Faulty wiring sparked a <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/irkutsk-region-busts-1-000-illegal-crypto-miners-in-a-year-fires-a-major-concern/">fire</a> that obliterated a suspected illegal cryptocurrency mining operation in Phuket Town. The incident happened on June 25 at around 6 am near the Thailand Post branch on Bangkok Rd, according to <a href="https://www.thephuketnews.com/suspected-crypto-mining-operation-gutted-by-fire-in-phuket-town-88652.php">thephuketnews</a>.&nbsp;

Firefighters promptly extinguished the blaze on the building's third floor, averting any injuries. The aftermath revealed destroyed computer equipment similar to those seized in other parts of the country during crackdowns on unlawful crypto mining. 
Spare computer parts, including graphics cards, littered the scene. The authorities are yet to issue any comments regarding the fire or the suspected crypto mining operation. 
Last year, a significant illegal mining operation in Samut Prakan reportedly utilized an estimated B500 million ($15.7 million) per month in stolen electricity. In a similar crackdown, Justice Minister Somsak Thepsutin revealed that about 3,500 mining devices, believed to be smuggled from China, were seized from 41 rented buildings in Bangkok and Nonthaburi. 
These crypto miners had directly connected to outside power lines. Over two years, they illicitly drained about B500 million ($15.7 million) of electricity from the state grid. Each miner earned roughly B35 ($1.10) per device per day, generating about B100 million ($3.14 million) over two years. 
This incident underscores the illegal crypto mining issues in Thailand, accentuating the need for better regulation and oversight. The fire serves as a stark reminder of the potential hazards associated with such operations.
