Construction of a $1.9 billion crypto mining data center in northwest <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/core-scientific-secures-hosting-contracts-for-17-935-bitcoin-mining-rigs/">North Dakota</a> is experiencing significant delays. The county commission has decided to cut power to the project following repeated postponements, according to <a href="https://wacotrib.com/ap/business/north-dakota-county-cuts-power-to-construction-on-crypto-mining-datacenter/article_382363b7-15bb-5fcd-b769-2dee69c22557.html">wacotrib</a>.&nbsp; 
FX Solutions Inc., in charge of the construction, is building the center for Atlas Power near Williston in Williams County. The company failed to meet the county's stipulations by the June 16 deadline, leading to the power cut decision. 
County Commission Chairman Cory Hanson highlighted that seven conditions need to be met before power can be restored. These conditions include road work, security, and noise mitigation, which the project had previously promised to address. 
There have been numerous complaints about noise during construction and many zoning violations. Crypto mining servers were reportedly running without a certificate of occupancy. 
In May, FX Solutions' president, Rick Tabish, assured that they were on track to complete the required work within 45 days. However, the recent setbacks show a stark contrast to this claim. 
As a result of these delays, the commission has also decided to put a six-month moratorium on any new crypto data centers. This pause will allow the county's planning and zoning department to update ordinances accordingly. This development comes as a significant blow to North Dakota's ambitions of becoming a high-performance computing hub, including cryptocurrency mining.
