Do Kwon, the former co-founder and CEO of blockchain firm Terra Labs, has been found guilty by a Montenegrin court for using a counterfeit Costa Rican passport. The court has sentenced him to four months in prison, according to an official court statement released earlier today.
The conviction stems from Kwon&#8217;s attempt to exit the country using fraudulent identification documents in March. Despite Kwon&#8217;s pleas of not guilty during a court hearing last Friday, the court ruled otherwise, finding substantial evidence to hold him accountable for the crime.
Kwon has been under detention in Montenegro for the past six months. His arrest was made in conjunction with an ongoing extradition request from his home country, South Korea, whose judicial authorities are seeking his return.
Representatives for Kwon have yet to release a public statement about the court&#8217;s verdict. As of now, it remains unclear how Kwon&#8217;s sentencing will affect the South Korean extradition proceedings or what the future holds for the tech entrepreneur.
