<h2 id="header-0">Hot Topic: Increasing concurrent users</h2><p><em>Developer Diaries aim to give a transparent view to our community on how the build of Bloktopia is progressing. We value your loyalty and passion for our project, and we will be sharing as much information as we can about 1 specific feature — hopefully at the end of each week!</em></p><p><em>We will continue to work in an agile manner, and will be adapting and optimising our roadmap continuously. That is the nature of building a metaverse. Some things we share here might not ever come to fruition, but our goal will be to set clear expectations and communicate with you all about the upcoming roadmap and priorities.</em></p><p>This <a href="https://medium.com/&#64;bloktopia/bloktopia-developer-diaries-1-1827868741ba" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">weekly Developer Diary update</a> is focused on concurrent users and expanding our reach within the Metaverse. Focusing on our efforts to ensure Bloktopia will be accessible to all.</p><p>One of the key focuses of the Unity team since the launch of <a href="https://medium.com/&#64;bloktopia/bloktopia-meta-spaces-live-db28650ac60f" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">MetaSpaces</a> and the development of this space is around ensuring accessibility and increasing the amount of <strong>concurrent users</strong>.</p><h2 id="header-1">What are Concurrent Users?</h2><p>Concurrent users is a metaverse metric used to understand the richness of the experience metaverse users have. It’s different from daily active users or monthly active users, which only measure the total amount of users in a given period. Whereas concurrent users is a metric to measures how many people are in a metaverse world at the same time.</p><p>To understand why that’s important, think of your Bloktopia experience with lots of users not being able to join at the same time. It would be very quiet, less immersive, less social and generally, less fun.</p><p>Concurrent users is a measure of how full Bloktopia is at any given point, with the assumption that the more concurrent users there are, the better the experience. This metric is ultimately what defines the users experience.</p><h2 id="header-2">Challenges and Growing Pains</h2><p>One of the biggest challenges faced in the development of Bloktopia and MetaSpaces has been the use of new technology that is continually evolving.</p><p>This has presented a number of challenges for us. Not only is it a complex to host multiple users into one space at the same time, but also to ensure that the experience is equal and excellent for every one of our users.</p><p>This is why we’ve been working hard on this aspect as, like we’ve always said, the user experience and quality of environment has always been at the forefront of our decisions.</p><react-video url="https://youtu.be/EYG1kVvxU9g"></react-video><p>The above video shows an example, in a testing environment of what the environment is starting to look like with hundreds of concurrent users in the same space. Please bear in mind, this is a testing environment. When live, avatars won’t all look the same, as they will of course be unique to your specification. They won’t be able to walk through each other, and they will be able to talk to each other through live chat, just like you can in a crowd in real life.</p><h2 id="header-3">Overcoming these challenges and progression</h2><p>In order to overcome some of these obstacles and ensure we expand on concurrent users, we’ve developed “room” features. Each individual room will show the same event/feature for each individual user, but allow users to be split across sections in the metaverse with comfortable sized crowds when in Bloktopia.</p><p>This means that users have a good experience without the environment being overly crowded and, within MetaSpaces, the presentations can be given to more users than the rooms standard capacity.</p><p>This is one of the key features of the metaverse and the beauty of Bloktopia in particular- users should not have to wait in line to enjoy experiences!</p><h2 id="header-4">About Bloktopia</h2><p>Bloktopia is a VR skyscraper made up of 21 floors to commemorate 21 million Bitcoin.
