The U.S. District Court has denied a motion by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to seal certain documents related to a speech by its former director William Hinman in 2018. The decision is seen as a major win for Ripple, the company behind the cryptocurrency XRP, which is facing a lawsuit from the SEC for allegedly selling unregistered securities.The speech in question was delivered by Hinman at a summit in June 2018, where he stated that Ethereum (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency by market capitalization, was not a security. She also rejected the SEC&#39;s argument that sealing the documents was necessary to preserve &#34;openness and candor&#34; within the SEC, stating: &#34;The Hinman Speech Documents are not protected by the deliberative process privilege because they do not relate to an agency position, decision or policy.&#34;The court order means that the public will soon be able to see what the SEC officials discussed and thought about Hinman&#39;s speech and its implications for the crypto industry. This could potentially reveal inconsistencies or contradictions in the SEC&#39;s stance on XRP and other digital assets.Ripple&#39;s CEO Brad Garlinghouse celebrated the court&#39;s decision on Twitter, calling it &#34;another win for transparency.&#34; He also hinted that the unredacted Hinman emails would be publicly available soon.The legal battle between Ripple and the SEC is one of the most closely watched cases in the crypto space, as it could have significant implications for the future regulation and innovation of digital assets.
