Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and Twitter, has vowed to sue Microsoft on the grounds that the Big Tech company “illegally” trained its artificial intelligence on Twitter data.In reaction to a post stating that Microsoft would stop supporting Twitter on April 25 across its online social advertising tools, Smart Campaigns and Multi-platform, Musk tweeted on April 19 that it was “lawsuit time” and that he was considering filing a lawsuit. 
Microsoft “trained illegally using Twitter data,” according to the head of Twitter, meaning that the company harvested user messages to aid in the training of its AI-powered services. 
Although Twitter’s API costs soared from $0 to $42,000 per month, and in some cases are charged upwards of $200,000 per month, according to a March report from Wired, Microsoft did not explain why it was discontinuing support for the social media platform. 
Musk continued to claim that by removing adverts, Microsoft is “demonetizing” Twitter data and “then selling our data to others.” In addition to losing the ability to produce, manage, view, and schedule Tweets, Microsoft’s decision to abandon Twitter means that its users will no longer have access to their Twitter accounts through its products. 
Customers of Microsoft can still access Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn, according to the company’s website. Microsoft’s choice follows Twitter’s decision to no longer offer free access to the Twitter API for versions 1.1 and 2. 
The dramatic price swing has had a negative impact on academia. Since 2020, Twitter data has formed the basis for more than 17,500 academic studies. They have now mostly been priced out.&nbsp; 
In order to combat the escalating development costs for internal and OpenAI initiatives, the software company is now apparently creating its own AI processors to power ChatGPT. 
According to Google Finance, Microsoft is the second-largest firm in the world by market cap with a $2.15 trillion valuation, just after Apple.
