TE-FOOD&#39;s Livestock Management and Epidemic Control solution enables government authorities and farmers to recognize, contain, and eliminate epidemic animal diseases, by using the latest technologies like blockchain, artificial intelligence, and mobile apps.As we mentioned in the first article, the first pillar of the solution is the easy and quick communication channel between the farmers and the government bodies (e.g. veterinaries), which - enhanced by tehnologies like mobile and AI) enables farmers to recognize diseases early on.The second pillar targets government bodies to efficiently contain an epidemic, if several outbreaks happen. The concept was to enable governments to collect all relevant information from various sources, and provide a solution which analyzes the collected data, and helps governments to take actions in order to contain the spread of the disease.<h3 id="what-information-might-be-relevant-for-the-government-to-contain-outbreaks">What information might be relevant for the government to contain outbreaks?</h3><ul><li>Actual livestock status on farms - number of animals, deaths, illnesses</li><li>Veterinary assessment results - routine or ad hoc (due to illness reports) visits on farms, veterinary checks in slaughterhouses</li><li>Livestock movements - transports to collection farms, slaughterhouses, exports</li><li>Biosecurity surveys on farms with automated risk scoring</li><li>Farm supply transport data - optionally, collecting information on the incoming supply transports (e.g. animal feed) can be an important parameter in some diseases.</li><li>Additional, complementary data sources - the solution can include disease reports from external data sources (e.g. wild animal infection register) which can have effect on the epidemic.</li></ul>Analyzing the incoming data, government bodies can see the actual status and spread of outbreaks.One of the most remarkable functions of the solution is the AI based simulation capability, which analyzes the historical data about the spread of a disease, the actual biosecurity risk scorings of the farms, the livestock movements, and farm supply transport data. The deep learning AI model scores potential spread patterns, and displays which farms are in risk of an outbreak. The model also takes into consideration, that depending on the characteristics of the disease, different parameters might affect the spread.For example, in case of African Swine Fever, the virus might be getting into the premises on the car wheels of supply or transport trucks. The routes of these trucks, and the biosecurity conditions of the accessed farms (vehicle cleaning possibilities) might affect the spread patterns. Similarly, finding infected wild animals might forecast an outbreak on a nearby farm.<img src="https://academy-public.coinmarketcap.com/srd-optimized-uploads/f29aad4796be4b5598b495e969383505.png" /><h3 id="actions-to-contain-the-disease">Actions to contain the disease</h3>Once responsible governmental professionals see the infected farms, and the farms in risk of an outbreak, they can set actions in the system to contain the disease. The solution provides multiple types of actions to choose from.They can order a policy change, resulting on stricter, or more frequent veterinary checks on specific farms. In case the veterinaries are integrated, they can see their task list on their mobile app, which farms they will have to visit, as well as all relevant information regarding those farms.Epidemic zones, and epidemic-free zones can be created to apply different policies (e.g. no external livestock movement from the affected farms, or mandatory truck cleaning upon arrival and departure).TE-FOOD&#39;s system also supports a more stricter policy, the movement control, to monitor and control the transport vehicles between farms and slaughterhouses. This module requires farms to report their external transports with destination. If the transport is approved, the system generates a unique QR code for the specific route. The QR code acts as a delivery licence in case of movement limitations. Government officials can continuously monitor the transports to feed further analyses in the system.Supplementary modules enable participants to register transportation vehicles, and their cleaning activities, as well as random inspections of cleaning. Another module enables the logging and monitoring of animal feed suppliers, and the feeding products delivered to the farms.Often, more invasive interventions are necessary in order to contain the spred of the diseases. The system supports actions, like preventive culling as well as vaccination on affected or high risk farms. Such actions might be limited to certain user types (e.g. state veterinaries), or certain documentation (test result verification of the disease&#39;s existence on a farm).As the Livestock Management and Epidemic Control solution is connected to the food traceability application, meat sourced from farms suffering an outbreak can be recalled quickly, by notifying all relevant participants with the recalled LOT QR codes.All these functions, combined with TE-FOOD&#39;s blockchain based ledger to verify the data which was registered in the system, enables governmental bodies in Vietnam to act quickly to contain the spread of animal diseases.
