<p><em>by Erik Arokszallasi, CEO of TE-FOOD</em></p><p>The release of <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/community/search/top/?q&#61;%23ChatGPT" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">#ChatGPT</a> drew the attention of the whole world to <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/community/search/top/?q&#61;%23AI" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">#AI</a> disruption. Since November 2022, Google search trend index for &#34;AI&#34; has doubled, and &#34;ChatGPT&#34; became one of the most popular search terms.</p><p>Obviously, the change also increased common fear amongst people about AI and bots taking their jobs. Medium posts, Reddit discussions, Twitter threads try to imagine what professions will become obsolete. A strong catalyst of the fear is, that for a long time, the tech industry predicted that AI will first replace blue collar workers, while knowledge work, management, and creative work will be the last to be replaced. </p><h3 id="advancements-in-generative-ai-proved-this-theory-wrong">Advancements in generative AI proved this theory wrong.</h3><p>But many people think that &#34;Knowledge work is a lot more than just crunching numbers, shuffling papers, etc.&#34;, and &#34;AI that&#39;s capable of fully replacing what a significant amount of knowledge workers do is still pretty far out&#34;.</p><p>So their narrative is that AI will improve white collar and creative jobs, but it won&#39;t replace them. This is partly true. But often, technological advancements take over only the repetitive tasks. In most professions, a varying portion of the tasks fall in this repetitive task category. Sometimes it&#39;s 30%, sometimes 70%.</p><p>Just like the well known use case of AI to analyze X-ray recordings. AI filters out the obvious negative ones (95%), and humans analyze the problematic ones. It&#39;s a text book use case for AI taking over a repetitive task.</p><h3 id="the-question-is-will-this-result-in-needing-much-fewer-professionals-in-healthcare-or-they-will-get-new-tasks-instead-of-analyzing-x-ray-recordings">The question is: will this result in needing much fewer professionals in healthcare, or they will get new tasks instead of analyzing X-ray recordings? </h3><p>Hard to say, but pure logic supports the first option. While it&#39;s true, that AI probably won&#39;t take over many white collar jobs in their completeness, it still can decrease the demand for those jobs by taking over a part (repetitive tasks) of their work.</p><p>As AI, RPA, robotics, sensor technology advance, so will bots take over a wider range of our work, <strong>task by task</strong>.</p><p>The same progress is about to happen with creative work. Generative AI probably won&#39;t take over all creative jobs, just like Wordpress or Shopify didn&#39;t take over all websites and ecommerce systems. </p><h3 id="but-once-the-first-company-is-using-an-illustration-generated-by-midjourney-in-their-communication-instead-of-buying-it-from-an-illustrator-the-disruption-had-begun">But once the first company is using an illustration generated by Midjourney in their communication, instead of buying it from an illustrator, the disruption had begun. </h3><p>If SMEs will mostly use AI generated creatives to save money, this will decrease the size of the market, which will likely decrease the need for creative professionals.</p>
