<h2 id="header-0">Sam Bankman-Fried declared guilty</h2><p>Sam Bankman-Fried, the founder of FTX, has been charged by the Securities and Exchange Commission with defrauding investors by using billions of dollars in customer funds for secret venture capital, and now he has also been charged by the Manhattan federal court with conspiracy to commit wire fraud among other crimes.</p><h3 id="manhattan-indictment-of-sbf">Manhattan Indictment of SBF</h3><p>Sam Bankman-Fried, the creator of FTX, is accused of misusing customer funds on eight counts of criminal charges, including conspiracy and wire fraud, according to an indictment filed by the US Attorney for the Southern District of New York.</p><p>The indictment accuses SBF of <a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/crypto-currency-news/sec-chair-sbf-built-house-cards" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">money laundering</a>, wire fraud, commodities fraud, securities fraud, and other offences in connection with an alleged scheme to divert funds from FTX customers to the SBF-owned cryptocurrency hedge fund, Alameda Research.</p><p>He has also been accused of scheming with others to make corporate payments to <a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/crypto-currency-news/sbf-political-donations-fraudulent-transfers" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">political candidates</a> and committees that exceeded the $25,000 annual cap and making donations in other people's names to get around that cap, in addition to violating campaign finance regulations.</p><h4>SBF's Declination of Grace</h4><p>The Complex Frauds and Cybercrime Unit at the Southern District of New York U.S. Attorney's Office has been leading the investigation.</p><p>Less than a month after the catastrophic collapse of the FTX exchange rocked the cryptocurrency community, Bankman-Fried, the former face of the cryptocurrency sector, was arrested in the Bahamas on Monday night.</p><h4>Several Charges Are Levied</h4><p>The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) both filed civil enforcement lawsuits before the federal court in New York on Tuesday, making it a busy day for both organisations.</p><p>SBF has not yet been returned to the US, according to a spokesperson of the US Attorney's Office.</p>
