The individual who was detained in the Dutch town of Veenendaal is suspected of using cryptocurrency to launder tens of millions of euros in illicit funds.The individual was apprehended after the authorities identified him as having connections to stolen<a href="https://www.coingabbar.com/en/crypto-currency/bitcoin-btc-prices-usd" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> Bitcoin (BTC)</a> from an Electrum bitcoin wallet software patch. The person was said to have a tendency of exchanging unlawful funds between BTC and Monero, according to the authorities (XMR). This was an effort to conceal the money’s origin.The individual also used decentralised Bitcoin exchange Bisq in addition to switching to XMR. The suspect utilised the communication as an extra effort to elude tracking because of Bisq’s privacy regulations. However, the bitcoin transactions allowed the authorities to track him down.Last month, Dutch authorities also detained a suspected Tornado Cash developer.After his detention, Dutch investigators searched his residence for additional evidence and seized items that would be helpful in their inquiries. Additionally, the police seized his cryptocurrency. On September 8, the individual was released pending the outcome of the investigation.
