Trading card giant Topps announced that a new collection of baseball trading cards will debut on the new Avalanche blockchain.
Major League Baseball’s new NFT collection launches next week on a new blockchain.
Leading trading card manufacturer Topps announced that a digital collectable line of non-fungible tokens based on its 2021 Topps Inception baseball card collection will be available on Sept. 9.
“This Topps NFT product comes at a time when so many talented young players are emerging in baseball and provides collectors with a new way to connect with them as their careers take shape,” said Evan Kaplan, managing director of MLB Players, Inc., the major league players association. “This is an opportunity for fans to own a piece of collectible baseball history.”
MLB Player and Major League Baseball partnered with Topps on the Inception physical and NFT lines.
The Avalanche Era
Calling Avalanche “a fast, low cost, and eco-friendly public blockchain,” Topps said its new ToppsNFTs.com DApp “removes the need for special wallets or token apps and provides a single location to buy, sell and explore officially licensed Topps NFT collections.”
Tobin Lent, VP & global general manager of Topps Digital Sports & Entertainment, added:
“Our vision is to create a fun, easy-to-use collecting experience on the Blockchain that appeals to all fans whether they have experience with NFTs or not.”
Calling the release a symbol of the growth of a “new era of Topps digital collecting,” he said:
“It’s an extension of the vision we’ve had for digital collectibles in our mobile apps since 2012.”
