Key Facts

  • Unichain, the layer-2 network built by Uniswap Labs, is moving to Optimism's OP Enterprise to prepare for native interoperability across OP Stack chains.

  • The Unichain testnet migrates on Tuesday, Oct. 13, and mainnet follows on Oct. 29, with chain ID, contracts, balances and apps unchanged.

  • Once interoperability is live, users will be able to move assets, starting with ETH, between Unichain and other OP Stack chains without a bridge.

Unichain, the network built by the team behind Uniswap (UNI), is moving to OP Enterprise from Optimism (OP) to prepare for native interoperability with other OP Stack chains, with its test network migrating on Tuesday, Uniswap Labs said.
The change is meant to let Unichain users move assets, starting with Ethereum (ETH), between Unichain and other OP Stack chains without a bridge once interoperability goes live. Unichain's mainnet migrates on Oct. 29.
Uniswap Labs said in a Friday blog post that the upgrade extends Optimism's "programmable financial infrastructure" to Unichain, a layer-2 network built on Optimism's OP Stack.

"For Unichain users, nothing changes," the post said. Unichain's chain ID, contracts, balances and apps stay the same, including Uniswap's v2, v3 and v4 deployments.

Unichain remains a Stage 1 rollup with permissionless fault proofs, and contract upgrades sit under Optimism Governance and the Security Council, as they do today, Uniswap Labs said. The post also listed Optimism's operation of the production stack, including sequencers on mainnet and testnet, RPC, monitoring and incident response, among the things that stay the same.

"Once interop is live, users can move assets, starting with ETH, across OP Stack chains without a bridge," Unichain wrote on X.

Unichain Joins Optimism's Enterprise Push

The migration puts Unichain on the same infrastructure Optimism pitches to companies. Optimism describes its offering as helping companies "bring their business onchain with programmable financial infrastructure."
Optimism has also reworked its token plans this year. In August, an OP governance vote moved 546.9 million OP from the user airdrop allocation to an enterprise fund controlled by the Optimism Foundation.
The foundation separately proposed in January to use half of Superchain revenue for monthly OP buybacks.
Uniswap Labs said Unichain users will get first access to native interoperability and new OP Stack releases as they ship. The announcement did not give a date for interoperability to go live.
