<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">SpaceX and Tesla founder Elon Musk said people should be able to buy Tesla cars with Dogecoin (DOGE) ”at some point.”</span></p>
<p>Asked when DOGE could be used to buy Teslas, Musk replied, ”At some point, I think we should enable that.”</p>
<p>“You can buy Tesla merch with Doge, which is cool,” he added, according to a <a href="https://twitter.com/dogeofficialceo/status/1768087572234793050" data-v-f87c67ca="" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"><span data-v-f87c67ca="">video</span></a><span data-v-f87c67ca=""> of his visit to the company’s Giga Berlin factory</span>. “So, Dogecoin to the moon.”</p>
<p>The Dogecoin price has surged almost 8% in the past 24 hours to trade at $0.184 at 7.12 a.m. EST amid a meme coin market rally.</p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This is not the first time </span><a href="https://insidebitcoins.com/news/elon-musk-companies-spacex-and-tesla-hold-over-1-3-billion-in-bitcoin-arkham-intelligence-says" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Musk</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> has expressed his fondness of the largest meme coin by market cap, earning him the nickname “DOGEFather.”</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In May 2021, Musk was invited to host the popular late-night live comedy show Saturday Night Live (SNL). In one of the skits, he played a financial advisor and repeatedly </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">gave vague answers to questions about what DOGE is, before eventually agreeing that the meme coin is “just a hustle,” and then ending with “to the moon!”</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In November 2022, Musk was also seen at X (formerly Twitter) headquarters wearing a T-shirt with a graphic of DOGE sporting a cowboy hat and sunglasses.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Musk’s interest in the crypto market has since waned. I</span><span style="font-weight: 400;">n a Dec. 21 X </span><a href="https://twitter.com/CathieDWood/status/1737955665459417547?s=20" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"><span style="font-weight: 400;">space conversation</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> with ARK Invest CEO Cathie Wood, Musk said that he hardly spends any time ”thinking about cryptocurrency.” </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“I have thought for a long time about money and the nature of money,” he said. Money is just “a database for resource allocation.” </span><span style="font-weight: 400;">Musk</span><span style="font-weight: 400;"> added that the traditional fiat system “is actually fine as a database for resource allocation,” provided there is minimal abuse from the government.&nbsp;</span></p>
