<p>Professor Eyad Elyan from Robert Gordon University (RGU), specializing in Artificial Intelligence and machine learning, has been awarded the title of Academic of the Year at the Innovate UK Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) Awards 2023. His achievement is attributed to his pivotal role in leading a groundbreaking KTP project with Aberdeen-based inspection specialists AISUS Offshore.</p>
<p>RGU, in collaboration with AISUS, has revolutionized the conventional method of assessing the structural integrity of offshore assets, traditionally relying on remotely operated vehicles and engineers. Through this partnership, they have digitally transformed this practice by incorporating state-of-the-art machine learning and deep learning techniques to enhance operations significantly.</p>

<p>Professor Eyad Elyan expressed his immense joy at being selected as a finalist and the subsequent award. He described the collaboration with AISUS Offshore as a prime example of innovation, knowledge exchange, and associate development. He led the project, served as the academic supervisor, and lauded the team’s dedication to delivering a state-of-the-art AI-driven solution to enhance remote inspection procedures within the company. Professor Elyan also acknowledged the indispensable support received from the North of Scotland KTP Centre and RGU colleagues.</p>
