In this blog, we will explore UTXOs in depth to gain a comprehensive understanding.What is an Unspent Transaction Output (UTXO)? Imagine UTXOs as coins you get from cryptocurrency transactions. They&#39;re like coins in your pocket waiting to be used again. It&#39;s the part of cryptocurrency that&#39;s been sent to you and can be used for more transactions.When transactions happen in blockchain, there are inputs and outputs. Inputs are UTXOs from before that start transactions. Outputs are new UTXOs created after a successful transaction for a specific address. How UTXO (Unspent Transaction Output) Works UTXOs follow these steps:<ol><li>Referring to Old UTXOs: Imagine you want to make a cryptocurrency transaction. First, you pick the UTXOs you want to use as input. These UTXOs represent the cryptocurrency you have and want to spend. But, the input must be equal to or more than the output.</li><li>Checking UTXOs: Miners take your transaction and put it in a block. When the block is full and a miner finishes it, your transaction is checked. They make sure you have the input and that it hasn&#39;t been used before. This step stops double spending and keeps the blockchain safe.</li><li>Making New UTXOs: Once the check is done, your transaction is complete. It goes into a block and gets added to the blockchain. The inputs you used are marked as spent and can&#39;t be used again. Instead, new UTXOs are created at specific addresses for the person you sent the cryptocurrency to. They can use these new UTXOs for their own spending.</li></ol>How UTXO Prevents Double SpendingUTXOs are like guards that protect against using the same money twice. Each UTXO can only be used once. If someone tries to use it again, the system will catch it while checking transactions. Once a UTXO is put in the blockchain, it stays the same and shows it&#39;s been used. Then, a new UTXO is made for the new money that goes out.Examples of UTXO TransactionsLet&#39;s say Mark has 1.5 bitcoins. But it&#39;s not one coin, it&#39;s split into two UTXOs: one with 1 bitcoin and the other with 0.5 bitcoin. If Mark wants to send 0.8 bitcoin to Ron, he uses the 1 bitcoin UTXO as input. A new UTXO with 0.8 bitcoin goes to Ron, and Mark&#39;s end gets 0.2 bitcoin. If we ignore fees for simplicity, Mark&#39;s new UTXO will be a bit less than 0.2 bitcoin.Another case is if Mark wants to send 1.2 bitcoins to Ron. He needs both UTXOs: 1 bitcoin and 0.5 bitcoin. He can put them together to complete this transaction, and the remaining 0.3 bitcoin comes back to him.UTXOs and Your PrivacyUTXOs also affect how private your cryptocurrency transactions are. In regular money systems, your account gets updated after each transaction. But in cryptocurrencies, UTXOs are tracked individually. This makes it simple to connect UTXOs to specific addresses.
