What do we really know about DLT, except that it is indeed a form of technology that allows the management of decentralized ledgers? In reality, we could just use the exact terms of the word: DLT, Distributed Ledger Technology. However, it is possible to get confused with blockchain technology. Indeed, blockchain is defined as a way to optimize the data storage, with an extra level of security. Very well, however, this does not help us more to understand. It is hard to see the difference between DLT and blockchain. <h2 id="header-0">Blockchain, a type of DLT </h2>If we had to define blockchain quickly and in a pictorial way, we would just have to say that blockchain is a set of blocks of data, added one after the other, once validated. Validation by whom? By the network nodes. An efficient technique to secure each data that enters such or such block. <h2 id="header-1">Why are not all DLTs blockchains? </h2>First of all, because in DLTs, it is possible to appoint a central figure. In this sense, the latter will allow the organization of the decision making. Now, on a blockchain, everything is done in a decentralized way and without the intervention of a third party. Another distinctive element is that access to data and the transparency of the protocol can be limited according to the rules established in a DLT. In the blockchain, there are no access restrictions. There are other elements (<a href="https://www.galeon.care/en/distributed-ledger-technology-dlt-and-blockchain/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">see article</a>). <h2 id="header-2">What are the other types of DLT? </h2>Other types of DLT exist. First of all, there are public ledgers, also called &#34;permissionless&#34;; private ledgers or hybrids. The distinctions will be made at the level of the implementation of a centralized figure or not, of the possibility of limiting or not the entries of the users, or still, of the technique of validation of the blocks of data or the registers.
