 A former Belgian <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" title="senator" href="https://thebittimes.com/tag/senator.html">senator</a> who was recruited by Chinese <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" title="spies" href="https://thebittimes.com/tag/spies.html">spies</a> to “divide the US-European relationship” reportedly gave <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" title="Crypto" href="https://thebittimes.com/tag/crypto.html">Crypto</a>currency and specifically Binance the thumbs up, referring to it as “the <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" title="future" href="https://thebittimes.com/tag/future.html">future</a>.”
 As reported by the Financial Times, far-right politician Frank Creyelman was tasked by China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS) spy agency with influencing decisions made by the European Parliament. He was specifically instructed to influence discussions around China’s crackdown on democracy in Hong Kong to the persecution of Uyghurs in Xinjiang.
 A joint investigation carried out by the Financial Times, Der Spiegel, and Le Monde has revealed that Creyelman was at one point taught by his handler Daniel Woo how to use <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" title="Crypto" href="https://thebittimes.com/tag/crypto.html">Crypto</a>currency to receive payment.
 In a series of leaked messages from March 2022, Woo prepped Creyelman that he would be sending his payment using crypto. However, Creyelman responded that he wasn’t sure how to use digital currency because he’s an “old school guy.”
 Woo replied with a single word, “Binance,” subsequently claiming that it’s “convenient and safe.” Creyelman replied, “It is. Special. Never did it but it’s the <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" title="future" href="https://thebittimes.com/tag/future.html">future</a>.”

 According to a former MI6 Chinese intelligence expert, one provincial division of the MSS had an estimated 5,000 intelligence officers and prioritized operations in Europe. “<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" title="China" href="https://thebittimes.com/tag/china.html">China</a> has a significant human and electronic collection capability in Brussels, which is seen as a target-rich environment due to the concentration of international organizations, including the European Commission and NATO,” they said.
 They also claimed that Chinese spies were likely to take more risks in Europe due to the consequences being less severe than in the US, and that Brussels in particular does not have sufficient security resources.
