The transaction, recorded on Nov. 23, involved transferring 55.77 BTC, with a staggering $3.1 million fee. Miner <a href="https://account.antpool.com/sign_up?method=2&amp;service=&amp;inviteCode=f9nZyT" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Antpool</a> processed this record-setting transaction in block 818,087. The victim's account: creation of a new cold wallet led to the immediate transfer of the entire 139 BTC to an unknown address. The purported victim speculated about a script with a flawed fee algorithm running on their wallet.
Mononaut, a bitcoin explorer operator, theorized a low-entropy wallet might be to blame, suggesting potential attacks by multiple hackers. This theory also offers an explanation for the bizarrely high transaction fee, positing it as a tactic to outpace competitors in draining low-entropy wallets.
In an attempt to establish ownership, 83_5BTC posted a signed message. While Mononaut confirmed the account's control over the address, distinguishing between the real victim and the hacker remains challenging. <a href="https://account.antpool.com/sign_up?method=2&amp;service=&amp;inviteCode=f9nZyT" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Antpool</a>'s response to potentially returning the fee is pending, adding to the complexity of the situation.
