<p>Brave and Protocol Labs <a href="https://www.ethnews.com/fvm-takes-filecoin-to-new-heights-empowering-defi-data-daos-and-metaverse-gaming-expanding-interoperability-with-ethereum-ecosystem/">began</a> their collaboration in January 2021, when Brave introduced IPFS support for desktop versions of the browser, unlocking new ways to experience the web. Brave Wallet later integrated Filecoin, which facilitates storing, accessing, and distributing data on the decentralized web. With Brave’s new wallet features, users can participate and contribute to the decentralized web movement.</p>

<p>Brave desktop v1.51 introduces automatic NFT pinning to IPFS, which secures the metadata of <a href="https://www.ethnews.com/filecoins-fws-unveils-open-source-aws-and-azure-rival-powered-by-decentralized-storage-network/">supported</a> NFTs in Brave’s native wallet. By pinning a file to multiple locations, the safety, retrievability, and persistence of any given file increases with every additional location. Many NFT collections store their metadata on IPFS or other decentralized storage solutions instead of blockchains, and some even host NFT metadata on Web 2.0 servers, which carry risks of data loss and censorship.</p>
<p>Users of Brave Wallet can now avoid the permanent loss of NFT metadata by pinning them locally in their browser. Even users with no knowledge of IPFS can ensure their NFTs&#8217; continuous availability within the IPFS network, gaining peace of mind. <h2 id="filecoin-virtual-machine-integration">Filecoin Virtual Machine Integration</h2>

FVM is a runtime that brings smart contracts to Filecoin, making its components programmable by anyone. FEVM is an EVM runtime that allows Ethereum and Solidity developers to run their contracts on FVM with little to no modifications, supercharging Filecoin’s potential with existing Ethereum tooling and infrastructure.</p>
<p>Protocol Labs expects to see major development in cross-chain contract calls to execute storage processes from other blockchains, along with experimentation in decentralized finance, social, gaming, and more. Brave wallet unlocks a new class of web applications, putting control directly in end-users’ hands.</p>
