The Ampleforth Governance Token, known as FORTH, is a pivotal component of the Ampleforth (AMPL) ecosystem, enabling token holders to influence the protocol’s future through voting or delegation. AMPL, distinguished as the first rebaseable cryptocurrency, maintains a non-dilutive nature akin to Bitcoin, yet uniquely allows for the tokenization of contracts with predictable value.
Launched in April 2021, FORTH was introduced to the market with a strategic partnership with Coinbase. The governance process of Ampleforth involves a structured approach where community consensus is built through a series of steps, starting with discussions and culminating in on-chain proposal implementation.
Ideas for protocol improvement can originate from various platforms such as social media, the Governance Forum, or community channels. These ideas, once backed by community support, can be formalized into Ample Improvement Proposals (AIPs) or Configuration Change Proposals (ACCPs) by developers.
FORTH enhances the Ampleforth ecosystem by decentralizing control over the protocol to the community. Token holders can utilize their FORTH to vote on protocol amendments, marking a significant step towards full decentralization. As of March 30, 2021, individuals who have previously interacted with Ample are eligible to claim a share of the FORTH network, acknowledging the contributions of over 80,000 participants in the protocol’s history.
