<p>The journey to this groundbreaking legislation was not without challenges. The push for open-source government software began in 2011 with the <a href="https://www.openjustitia.ch/DE/interne_Open_Justitia.html" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Swiss Federal Supreme Court’s release</a> of Open Justitia. Despite these obstacles, the EMBAG was ultimately passed, reflecting a decisive victory for advocates of this kind of software.</p>

<p>The EMBAG mandates the release of OSS by the Swiss government and its contractors. It also ensures the code is distributed under an open-source license, except for third-party rights or security concerns.
