Bitcoin mining company, <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/genesis-digital-assets-stala-obektom-krupnyh-vlozhenij-alameda-research-2/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Genesis Digital Assets</a> (GDA), is expanding its U.S. footprint. They have announced the launch of three Bitcoin mining <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/crypto-miners-shift-gears-ai-is-the-new-gold-rush/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">data centers</a> in South Carolina. 
The centers are located near Anderson and between the towns of Union and Lockhart. They began operations this year, boasting a combined capacity of 33 megawatts (MW). Last year, GDA also broke ground on a 40 MW data center in <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/texas-residents-challenge-bitcoin-mining-industrys-impact-on-power-grid-and-communities/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Texas</a>. 
GDA is a global player in Bitcoin mining. They operate mines across Europe, Asia, and North America. The firm accounts for approximately 2% of the Bitcoin network's total <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/bitcoin-miners-set-for-a-tough-ride-as-2024-halving-nears-jp-morgan/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">hash rate</a>. 
Andrey Kim, GDA's CEO, attributes the move to South Carolina's clean electricity from hydro and nuclear energy. He praised the state as one of the most exciting and pro-innovation in the country. 
The firm employed 150 local workers to construct the three new centers. GDA's Head of North America, Ankit Joshi, highlighted the warm welcome from local communities. 
One of the <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/crypto-miners-shift-gears-ai-is-the-new-gold-rush/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">data centers</a>, the Pacolet center, is conveniently located near a Lockhart Power hydroelectric plant. Kim explained that GDA is committed to environmentally friendly operations. 
However, he admitted that they currently lack accurate data to confirm the energy mix at the Pacolet center. Despite this, GDA remains committed to demonstrating that Bitcoin mining can be very ESG-friendly.
