Proof Of Play Has Raised $33 Million To Develop Web3 Games
Proof of Play, helmed by Farmville co-creator Amitt Mahajan, has raised $33 million to develop Web3 games. The financing was co-led by Andreessen Horowitz and Greenoaks, with participation from renowned investors including Naval Ravikant and the Twitch founders. The team includes experienced members from Epic Games, Zynga, EA, Activision, and Google.
Proof of Play's debut game, Pirate Nation, tries to overcome typical challenges encountered by players in Web3 games by allowing players to “quickly immerse” in the game without having to learn about how blockchain works. It is a social role-playing game where players build their own pirate ships and explore the high seas. Decentralization is important to the company, and it plans to open-source its technology framework in the future.
The $33 million seed round will be used to expand Proof of Play's team and develop new games. The company plans to use the funding to build a platform that allows creators to make on-chain games and applications using Proof of Play's blockchain technology. The company also plans to add new features to Pirate Nation, including player-owned islands and a marketplace for NFTs.
