The Internet Computer is the only general-purpose blockchain that is both fast and indefinitely scalable. Along with Bitcoin and Ethereum, it is the third important blockchain innovation. The DFINITY Foundation fostered and launched the Internet Computer.
In the last several days, Internet Computer featured in several significant ecosystem headlines. Launching a Proof of Green (PoG) effort, the nonprofit blockchain Foundation has teamed up with Carbon Crowd. The PoG effort aims to increase transparency and reduce greenwashing in the blockchain sector by standardizing how blockchain networks report their carbon emissions.
The Internet Computer (ICP) network’s development team, the Dfinity Foundation, also revealed the launch of “chain-key bitcoin,” or “ckBTC,” a native ICP token. An important development in blockchain interoperability is the ICP-based bitcoin derivative. A protocol-level integration of the technology has been made with bitcoin.
Instead of utilizing a custodian or bridge, the ckBTC system uses canisters, which function with a smart contract. In essence, a person must deposit BTC in exchange for the ICP token to receive ckBTC, and withdrawals operate in the same manner when ckBTC is exchanged for real bitcoin.
