Apple Introduces Vision Pro Headset, No Mention of Metaverse
Apple has unveiled its new mixed reality headset, the Vision Pro, at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023 on June 5. The headset is designed to unlock a new universe of virtual and augmented-reality apps. Starting at $3,499, the headset will be available early 2024 in the U.S., and other countries later next year.
The system uses eye and hand movements for navigation, with no external controllers, and also employs voice input. The headset uses a feature called Eye Sight that shows a wearer's eyes if they're in augmented-reality mode. Vision Pro runs on visionOS, the world's first spatial operating system, creating a more interactive experience for users.
However, unlike competitors Microsoft and Meta, Apple deliberately avoided using terms like "metaverse," “AR” and “VR,” instead referring to its technology as the first "spatial computer.”
