Study reveals 10 most popular cryptocurrency projects on Twitter
A study conducted by Streamr Network, a decentralized real-time data network, reveals that the most tweeted about cryptocurrency project is Bitcoin, with 1,650,951 tweets using the term “# Bitcoin” over seven days. The result emerged after Streamr dug into Twitter’s API, inspecting millions of tweets to track down which cryptocurrency project had consistently been tweeted about on the microblogging platform between March 10 and 16, 2023.

Since its inception in 2009, Bitcoin (BTC) has been a cynosure, the most sophisticated cryptocurrency in the ecosystem. Though fiercely rivalled by Ethereum (ETH), Bitcoin (BTC) has maintained a position as the pack’s leader.

Even after the misfortune that crumbled the value of major cryptocurrencies in the past year, Bitcoin (BTC) is currently ranked as the most valuable cryptocurrency in the world, with a market cap of  $521,296,362,749, as seen in CoinMarketCap. .

BTC, BNB, ETH dominate cryptocurrency conversation on Twitter

Immediately behind Bitcoin is Binance’s BNB, with #BNB featuring in 638,662 tweets, according to the report. Launched in 2017 through an ICO, BNB has gained traction in cryptocurrency. It is currently ranked as the fourth most valuable coin on CoinMarketCap, with a market cap of $41,149,971,560. Ethereum (ETH) comes third as it was featured in 426,769 tweets. By the market capitalization rank on CoinMarketCap, it is the second most valuable coin with a market cap of $213,562,619,645.

Solana is the fourth most popular cryptocurrency project on Twitter, with 242,117 tweets. By incorporating a proof-of-stake mechanism and its proof-of-history model, it sits comfortably as the twelfth largest cryptocurrency in the world. “#Solana” was featured in 242,117 tweets between March 10 and 16.

Gamefi, a decentralized finance protocol with a gamified element, comes fifth after getting featured in 229,179 tweets. After Gamefi, in the fifth position is Polygon, which featured in 142,072 tweets. Introduced to the crypto ecosystem in 2020, it provides connectivity and scalability between blockchain networks. With over 7,000 blockchain projects, it is ranked as the eighth most valuable coin by CoinMarketCap, with a market cap of $9,650,556,360.

Ripple is the seventh most popular cryptocurrency project, with 141,393 tweets containing the hashtag ‘#XRP’ in the last seven days. Ripple is a 2012 real-time gross settlement system, currency exchange, and remittance network. By market capitalization, XRP is ranked sixth.

Cardano, the public blockchain platform that is open-source and decentralized, falls into the eighth position, having featured in 120,050 tweets. Co-founded by Charles Hoskinson and Jeremy Wood, it is the seventh-largest cryptocurrency, with a market cap of $12,477,198,317.

Aptos comes as the ninth most tweeted about cryptocurrency, with 117,891 tweets featuring #Aptos. With an underwhelming market cap of $1,971,137,248, it is ranked as the thirty-first most valuable coin in the world. This clearly indicates that crypto is a buzz trend regardless of how much loss it has attracted.

RichQUACK comes into the scene and completes the list as the tenth most tweeted about cryptocurrency projects, having featured in 94,688 tweets. It is a hyper deflationary meme token on the Binance Smart Chain with a goal to reward holders through “frictionless yield generation”.

The most interesting fact about RichQUACK is that it has no rank on CoinMarketCap, a bit of an anomaly seeing that it makes the cut as one of the ten most tweeted-about crypto projects in over seven days between March 10 and 16.

“While it may come as no surprise that Bitcoin came out on top, it is good to see that there is a wide variety of projects that are getting lots of buzz.” A spokesperson for Streamr added, “From Web3 projects in a similar vein to Streamr; like Aptos, to meme coins like RichQUACK, and remittance networks like Ripple, all of these projects have had a significant number of tweets which shows that despite the current bear market, blockchain projects and their communities are still alive and well.”
