Hello from The Netherlands! We're at the Bitcoin Amsterdam conference.

It's going to be a jam-packed two days of fireside chats, panels and workshops.

Some of Wednesday's highlights include a debate on whether Bitcoin's inflation hedge narrative has failed, alongside an in-depth discussion on mass adoption in Europe.

There's also going to be plenty of talk about the energy crisis facing the continent, and how Bitcoin can help.

While El Salvador is best known for adopting Bitcoin as legal tender, Madeira has also been engaging in an experiment of its own.

Attendees at Bitcoin Amsterdam have been given their very own Bolt Card, meaning they can spend BTC via the Lightning Network.

It's being accepted by vendors across the site too, meaning you can pay for a cappuccino with your crypto.

A Changing Landscape

Of course, a lot's changed over the past 12 months. A year ago today, Bitcoin was worth $56,000 — and there was plenty of euphoria in the market.

Even at Bitcoin Miami back in April, there was still plenty of bullishness to go around with prices trading at $44,000.

Fast forward to now, and BTC has slumped to $19,120.

It'll be interesting to see what the mood is like within the venue — and you can bet your bottom dollar (or sat!) that there will be little talk of Bitcoin heading to $100,000.

Bitcoin Magazine's David Bailey began by describing it as the biggest Bitcoin conference to ever be held in Europe.

He says Amsterdam is the birthplace of central banking — and right now, a major conference about central banking, Sibos, is taking place nearby.

"What we're talking about here are solutions to the crises that we face as a society — our monetary crisis, our energy crisis, our financial crisis, our geopolitical crisis. Bitcoin is the solution to these problems. As we say in Bitcoin: Fix the money, fix the world."

Bailey cheekily says that a Bitcoin Amsterdam conference ticket will be given for free to anyone who is willing to have their Sibos ticket cut up in front of them.
