Spotify is testing a token-based promotion that lets fans of a handful of bands including Overlord and Kingship offer fans access to a specially curated playlist accessible via an NFT.

The pilot program is being tested on Android phones in the U.S., U.K, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.

One of the bands involved is — of course — Universal Music Group's Kingship, a "supergroup" fronted by three rare Bored Ape Yacht Club NFTs and a Mutant Ape. Developed by 10:22PM, a "next-gen Web3 label" the group is as much an exploration of what can be done with NFTs and metaverses as a musical act.

Fans using a Kingship Key Card NFT can unlock the band's exclusive playlist, it said in a tweet:

"Just to give you the vibe, we picked some of our favorites from Queen, Missy Elliott, Snoop Dogg and Led Zeppelin. Check it out and let us know your favorites."

Based on a screenshot, the Spotify pilot currently requires one of five wallets containing the appropriate NFT to be linked: MetaMask, Trust Wallet, Rainbow, Ledger Live and Zerion.

The screenshotted playlist includes "It Takes Two" by Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock, "Work It" by Missy Eliott and "Sabotage" by the Beastie Boys.

Kingship tweeted that they were excited to be part of the pilot, saying:

"This is a special moment. We're all about unlocking real value for our community and pushing the boundaries of music and blockchain, and having our holders be at the forefront of this space. 👑🦩"

Another participating band is Overlord, which said fans require a Creepz NFT to "access our Invasion playlist."
