He later returned the rigs because he didn't understand how to use them.
A Russian man has been convicted after stealing cryptocurrency mining equipment worth 1.6 million rubles ($217,440.)
According to local prosecutors, the 34-year-old entered his friend’s garage and took the rigs without their consent.
It all turned out to be a pointless exercise anyway. As the police began a preliminary investigation into what happened, the man ended up returning everything — and admitted he couldn’t use the stolen goods because he lacked understanding about how crypto worked.
A court has now sentenced the man to a three-year suspended sentence, and he will also face a probationary period of three years.
All of this means that he will avoid seeing the inside of a jail cell, provided that he stays out of trouble in the future.
