News outlets are doing a bad job of telling the Bitcoin story, the former editor of FT Alphaville has told CoinMarketCap.

But speaking at the Bitcoin Amsterdam conference, Izabella Kaminska said this is part of a "broader media problem" — and it isn't just specific to the cryptocurrency space.

She argued that many newsrooms suffer from a lack of resources, meaning journalists don't have enough time to analyze what they're doing.

According to Kaminska, the complexities and technical nuances surrounding Bitcoin "doesn't lend itself to soundbite culture" either.

Nonetheless, she does think that Bitcoin is now being taken more seriously by traditional news outlets — and it's being accepted that the world's biggest cryptocurrency is here to stay.

Kaminska says that Bitcoiners often miss a lot of the positive coverage they are getting. And while a number of panelists during the conference have railed against the likes of the BBC for how they portray Bitcoin, there have been frequent articles talking about how the cryptocurrency is being relied upon in the likes of Argentina, El Salvador and the Central African Republic.

The journalist — who is now a founding editor at The Blind Spot — also argued that the stubbornness and bullheadedness shown by Bitcoiners was necessary to get BTC to where it is today, describing it as a "pioneering spirit." But fast forward to now, and she suggested that it may be time to extend an olive branch to those who are skeptical of crypto — and try to reduce polarization.

Kaminska was on a panel discussing Bitcoin's media problem with Jemima Kelly, a Financial Times columnist who has been a vocal critic of BTC. During that debate, Kelly argued that the benefits Bitcoin brings are outweighed by the cons.

When asked whether she agrees with this perspective, Kaminska said she believes that it is better to have Bitcoin around.<div><iframe width="100%" height="166" scrolling="no" frameborder="no" allow="autoplay" src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=https%3A//api.soundcloud.com/tracks/1363037797&color=%23ff5500&auto_play=false&hide_related=false&show_comments=true&show_user=true&show_reposts=false&show_teaser=true"></iframe></div>
