Michael Lewis' New Book About Bankrupted FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried

According to Michael Lewis' latest book on bankrupt FTX CEO Sam Bankman-Fried, the disgraced crypto billionaire proposed giving former US President Donald Trump $5 billion in exchange for not running for office in 2024.

Lewis, the author of “The Big Short,” made the disclosure during an interview with CBS News regarding his book "Going Infinite: The Rise and Fall of a New Tycoon." According to Lewis, Bankman-Fried saw Trump as a threat to democracy and wanted him removed off the list of "existential risks."

Bankman-Fried is also said to have attempted to recruit Republican Senator Mitch McConnell as an ally against Trump. However, the $5 billion plan never materialized since Bankman-Fried lost his fortune when FTX went bankrupt in November 2022.

Prior to FTX’s implosion, Bankman-Fried had provided more than $100 million to political campaigns and was the Democratic Party's second largest donor after George Soros. He is charged with seven counts, including fraud for alleged campaign finance law violations. His trial will start on October 3.
