Meta, according to Zuckerberg, has transcended the "uncanny valley" with natural avatars that make users feel at ease. AI will be fully incorporated into software and hardware as part of Meta's long-term metaverse ambition to enable immersive socializing.

CTO Andrew Bosworth highlighted AI is critical to interpreting metaverse content and improving the platform during Meta's Connect conference. However, important technological and social concerns related to privacy, security, and mental health must be addressed before widespread adoption of virtual worlds linked by AI.

Zuckerberg acknowledges the challenges Meta faces, and welcomes criticism from users, regulators and experts. Previously, Meta laid off 11,000 employees and reported a $13.7 billion loss in 2022, following their pivot to focus on the metaverse.
