Trezor Has Yet to Respond to Requests for Comment Regarding the Malicious App

Beware of a counterfeit Trezor app lurking in the Apple App Store, posing a significant threat to cryptocurrency users. Disguised as "Trezor Wallet Suite," this malicious app was brought to attention on Twitter, with Rafael Yakobi of The Crypto Lawyers warning that it requests users' seed phrase, granting the operators full access to their crypto holdings. Shockingly, the app managed to evade Apple's rigorous review process and has likely already ensnared numerous victims over the weeks it has been available.

The genuine Trezor wallet, known as Trezor Suite Lite, is an open-source application that should be the only legitimate option in mobile app stores. Trezor has yet to respond to requests for comment regarding the malicious app. This incident follows Apple's recent warning to decentralized social network app Damus, threatening its removal from the app store if it fails to comply with guidelines related to Bitcoin-denominated tips. It also comes on the heels of Ledger's controversy surrounding its Ledger Recover service, marking another blow to the crypto community. While hardware wallets like Trezor offer enhanced security for self-custody, they do require a certain level of technical knowledge, making the counterfeits all the more worrisome.
