Zoho launches Ulaa; a web browser that prioritizes privacy by eliminating surveillance.

Speaking on this, Kehinde Ogundare, Country Manager, Zoho Nigeria, said,

Not many browsers on the market today are built to protect user privacy. They were created to protect the respective company’s ad-based business models and surveillance companies that complement them. This conflict between user’s preferences and browser’s business models means end users lose. 

This new offering from Zoho is meticulously crafted and firmly grounded in three fundamental pillars that drive the battle against tracking and surveillance.

Ulaa’s three primary focus

Privacy

• Ad and data tracking blockers: Ulaa prevents unauthorized push notifications, pop-ups, and time tracking, effectively shielding users from intrusive tracking techniques employed by various websites. It also refrains from collecting and sharing user data with third parties.
• Prohibition of DNS Prefetching and Motion Sensors: Ulaa further preserves user privacy by disabling DNS prefetching and preventing data caching. Also, motion sensors that track mouse movement and clicks are deactivated, eliminating potential avenues for tracking and surveillance.
• Multi-ID Model: Ulaa offers users the innovative multi-ID model, providing unique IDs associated with the browser. These IDs are frequently refreshed, adding an extra layer of protection against tracking software and enhancing user privacy.
• Enhanced Privacy Features: Ulaa empowers users with various privacy customizations, anonymized user data and statistics, geographical data isolation, end-to-end encryption, and privacy reports.
• Disabling Website-to-Device Communication: Ulaa takes a proactive stance by disabling the API that allows websites to connect and communicate with devices connected to users’ computers or Wi-Fi networks.

• A suite of productivity apps: Among these is Zia Search for swift and accurate information retrieval. Text2Speech enhances accessibility by transforming text content into spoken words. Also, Ulaa incorporates Zoho Notebook, a dedicated note-taking space that seamlessly synchronizes across all tabs, and Annotator, a built-in feature that can add annotations directly to web pages and images.

• Versatile browsing experience: Ulaa introduces a versatile browsing experience through its five modes, each operating in isolation to ensure enhanced privacy and protection. Users can seamlessly switch between these modes, tailoring their browsing experience to their needs.
• Dynamic Mode Switching feature: Ulaa’s Dynamic Mode Switching feature allows users to save preferred modes for specific websites conveniently. Upon revisiting a saved website, Ulaa will automatically open it in the designated mode, streamlining browsing and maintaining user preferences.
• Transition mode: Ulaa prompts users to switch modes if a website was previously accessed in a different mode to ensure a seamless transition between modes. Different Modes

• Personal Mode: Designed for personal use, this mode ensures a secure and private browsing experience. Users can engage in online banking, streaming, and shopping without signing in. Also, Work Mode incorporates an ad blocker specifically designed to protect against phishing attacks, bolstering the security of users’ work-related online activities.
• Developer Mode: This is for web developers and testers. It has developer tools and suggested extensions to ensure website compatibility and test new features. Users can inspect HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and track assets and load time.
• Kids Modes: This offers a safe online environment for children to learn, play games, and explore curated content. • Open Season Mode: This mode has no privacy restrictions, ad or tracking blockers, or UI or feature breakages. It’s similar to an average browser and allows access to all websites, including “zero-restriction” sites. The red theme serves as a reminder of disabled data protection features and informs users they’re being surveilled online.
