What a year! Here's the Myria 2022 recap…

Table of Contents

It’s been a hugely exciting year at Myria, and as 2022 draws to a close, we thought it would be cathartic to recap what’s happened in the last 12 months (a lot!), kicking off with a recap of our hugely successful…

Sigil Alliances campaign

By the close of the campaign in July, more than a million new users had registered as Myrians with us and chosen their alliances. On top of that, more than 900,000 Sigil NFTs were minted.

Did you take part? If you did, which Alliance did you choose: Federation, Equinox, or Vector Prime? If you remember, each had its own take on how to deal with The Rift. Can you remember what made them different? If not, why not head to our Medium publication for a quick recap on Alliance Lore and the Sigma Mission aboard the Stargazer?

What else has happened in 2022?

In a word — plenty. Many milestones were smashed, and a lot of good things happened at Myria, and we couldn’t have done it without our loyal and dedicated community. In no particular order, here’s a synopsis of Myria’s achievements this year…

We built an awesome team

Being a fast-growth start-up in any market comes with a host of challenges, but from a standing start, we managed to build a crack team of talented developers, artists, blockchain builders, Web3 aficionados, and seasoned games-industry experts to deliver the Myria experience. First, there were our Co-Founders, CTO Andrew Silber, and Head of Blockchain, Brendan Duhamel.

Fast-tracking on followers

In less than a year, the Myria community exploded and now boasts more than 300,000 active members and more than 1 million registered users.

Myria’s Layer 2 scaling solution launched

Although it seems like a long time ago that we built our L2 on top of Ethereum, this was one of the team’s first and most significant achievements. It marked a key moment when independent Web3 game studios began turning up to work with us. The reason for this is simple — we make the building process scalable, fast, and secure. The cherry on the cake is that there are zero gas fees. This means that entire NFT collections can be minted without the congestion and high gas usually associated with Ethereum. This is the true value of Myria, and it’s the backbone of our entire business.

Moonville Farms Alpha Launch

Moonville Farms was the first playable game in the Myria ecosystem with its Alpha version. This tycoon farming simulator puts the focus on fun and rewards the most skilled players with daily missions and weekly tournaments. With its in-game economy and the play-and-earn model, Moonville Farms aims for long-term sustainability. The game’s Alpha version helped the team gather useful feedback from the players and improve it in all aspects, turning it into a title that players truly want to play. You can find out all about Moonville Farms here.

Myria Studios began building its first games

Myria is more than just a gaming blockchain, it’s also a game development studio with Myria Studios. Myria Studios began building its first games. Our studio is currently working on a few titles and one of them is Metarush — a multiplayer battle royale obstacle course game
Games developed by Myria Studios utilize the free-to-play and play-and-earn models, making them more accessible to players and incentivizing the mass adoption of blockchain gaming. Expect to hear more from Myria Studios in 2023.

Core and wallet SDKs launched

Built with developers in mind, our SDKs were developed to make building games and minting on Myria a breeze for independent gaming studios. We developed a single line of code that quickly connects game builders to a suite of accessible and frictionless tools, helping them better streamline their teams, work in a more agile fashion, and therefore save money and time.

With Myria’s SDK solution suite, NFT-related activities can be carried out on the blockchain simply via its REST API. Complex tasks can be handled seamlessly, and intelligent code snippets mean that developers don’t need to mess around with any hardcore programming in computer languages such as Solidity or write any onerous smart contracts.

In addition to this — our core SDK — we also listened to our partners and created a wallet SDK. This intuitive piece of kit allows devs to request signatures from end-users and players, enabling fully immersive experiences without the need for players and traders to leave the site. You can find out more about Myria’s SDKs here.

More than 200 games now building on Myria

We’ve attracted more than 200 high-quality Web3 gaming projects ready to build and deploy their NFT collections, with many more lining up to take advantage of high-level scaling, super-fast transactions, and ZERO gas fees. Notable names include Psyber-X, Carnage Carnival, Zone9 Survival, Xia One, and Dragonary, to name a few. In addition, Myria’s games partners have now minted more than 500,000 NFTs on its platform! You can read about individual high-quality games exclusively building on Myria’s L2 here.

We went carbon neutral

Part of Myria’s early ambition was to create a Layer 2 scaling solution that didn’t make a dent in the planet. Through our partnership with Nori, we’ve achieved that. This means that as more Myria node validators come online, the increase in carbon emissions from the greater computational power required to secure the network will be completely offset. In short, Myria will never have a carbon footprint.

A nod to our Nodes

Myria’s node presale was successfully launched, with more than 4,000 nodes acquired by individuals and businesses who see value in Myria’s future ecosystem and are keen to play an integral role. Myria nodes will form the backbone of Myria’s growing ecosystem delivering a high level of security bolstered by the already robust security provided by Ethereum’s L1 solution, upon which Myria’s L2 is built.

Put simply, node operators will play an increasingly vital role in helping Myria deliver a seamless end-user experience. Nodes will also be used for decentralized data storage, governance voting, bringing external, off-chain information to the main protocol via oracles, and more.

Myria had its first birthday!

We were so busy in 2022 that we barely had time to catch our breath and realize that, come November, we would be a year old! We thought it would be remiss to let this marvelous milestone drift by unchecked, so we threw a party and gave away onwards and upwards in 2023.

Of course, much more has happened, and there isn’t time to cover the many thousands of product updates our team of talented technicians has made or the steady stream of awesome graphics flowing daily from our art team as they bring to life the new and exciting Web3 games coming down the pipeline. But we’ll do our level best to bring you more news about these things, plus what else is going on behind the scenes at Myria in 2023.

Rest assured, next year is going to be 2022 2.0! Bigger, better, and more amped up than ever. Myria has grown fast, and we’ll continue to push the boundaries that will help bring blockchain gaming to an ever wider audience.

Learn & Earn with $2k ETH on the line!

The final Myria competition to wrap up the month of December and the entire year is our Learn & Earn campaign. This festive treasure hunt-style quiz will feature 10 questions along with hints to find the answers.

Myra’s Learn & Earn will run from December 12 to December 21 with a single question being posted each day at 12:30 PM UTC over our channels (Discord, Twitter, Telegram, and Reddit). Participants can submit their answers in the provided Gleam form and quote-tweet their answers using #myria within 24 hours of the question being posted. In the end, 10 winners per question will be splitting the $2000 ETH prize pool.

Myria’s mission…

Is to deliver true digital asset ownership to those in our community and beyond. We believe in spreading the word of decentralization, fun, love, and entertainment through gaming. We believe that players should get something meaningful from their investment of time beyond just gaming. The blockchain makes ownership of what was once unownable a possibility, and we think that is something worth celebrating.

Above all, we want to let our community know that Myria won’t stand still. Our roadmap is in constant development. The tech is improving, the supporting infrastructure is improving, the games are better than ever, and with NFTs putting real ownership into the hands of players, we’re certain that, in the near future, there will be little contest between Web2 and Web3.

We believe that, for savvy gamers, the choice will be a simple one — play games for entertainment only or play for the same level of entertainment enhanced by the possibility of asset ownership, marketplace trading with an open order book, and genuine fiscal rewards.

This is why we remain forever dedicated to the Web3 blockchain gaming cause and everything it has to offer. Here’s to a great New Year!
