The Indian government is set to integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into its rural land mapping initiative under the SWAMITVA scheme. Launched in 2020, SWAMITVA aims to revolutionize property validation across rural India, crucial for clarity in ownership and reducing disputes.&nbsp; 
The initiative, bolstered by advanced drone technology, will employ AI for the automatic extraction of crucial data such as property boundaries, road networks, and water bodies from high-precision imagery.&nbsp; 
With drone datasets from 300 villages stored at the National Informatics Centre Cloud in Hyderabad, boasting an impressive accuracy of up to 5 cm, the sage is set for a transformative leap in mapping accuracy. 
In a bid to ensure robust implementation, the <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/technology/center-looking-to-give-ai-boost-to-drone-enabled-rural-land-mapping-programme-article-12765691.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">government</a> has issued a request for proposal seeking a 95 percent accuracy rate from agencies tasked with developing the AI models. 
Emphasizing cutting-edge technology, the proposal recommends leveraging Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), U-Net, and Mask R-CNN—deep learning models renowned for image segmentation and object recognition. 
The ambitious timeline aims for the AI model’s development within two months of agency selection, targeting coverage of 10,000 sq km of land data extraction per week. The National Informatics Centre will oversee quality assurance, ensuring data integrity and reliability throughout the project. 
The implications are profound: streamlined property records will empower rural landowners with clear ownership rights, enabling them to leverage property as a financial asset for loans and other benefits. By digitizing and demarcating rural land accurately, SVAMITVA not only mitigates disputes but also lays the foundation for inclusive economic growth in rural India. 
As India strides forward with its IndiaAI Mission, committing Rs 10,732 crores to bolster AI capabilities, the integration of AI with drone technology in SVAMITVA marks a pivotal moment in harnessing innovation for socio-economic development.
