This change, proposed by <a href="https://blog.bitjson.com/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Jason Dreyzehner</a> and titled “High-Precision Arithmetic for Bitcoin Cash,” is aimed at enhancing the precision and efficiency of arithmetic operations within the Bitcoin Cash network. The proposed increase follows the 2022 extension from 4 to 8 bytes and aligns with an earlier limit set by Satoshi Nakamoto in 2010. This proposal is designed to support higher-precision arithmetic without significantly increasing the processing or memory requirements of the VM, thereby improving contract security and reducing transaction sizes.
