Additionally, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office allowed a patent application for a method of treating agitation with an oromucosal formulation of dexmedetomidine, expected to extend protection for BioXcel’s IGALMI™ sublingual film until January 12, 2043.</p>
<p>IGALMI™, a sublingual film formulation of dexmedetomidine, is currently approved for the acute treatment of agitation associated with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder I or II in adults. It is administered under healthcare provider supervision, and its safety and efficacy beyond 24 hours from the initial dose have not been studied. The most common side effects reported in clinical trials include sleepiness, dizziness, and low blood pressure.</p>
