<p>The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Nigeria has cautioned investors against using Binance, one of the world’s largest crypto exchanges, due to its lack of a license to operate in the country. The SEC warned the public about the high level of risk and potential total loss of investments. Binance Nigeria was a fraudulent entity with no real affiliation with Binance. Nigeria is cautious about the crypto industry but is promoting its central bank’s digital currency. The country’s introduction of a 10% tax on gains from the disposal of digital assets in May 2023 has been called “premature” by local stakeholders.</p>
