South Korean authorities are investigating messaging platform Telegram for its potential involvement in deepfake online sex crimes. The probe, according to <a href="https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/south-korea-police-launch-probe-into-telegram-over-online-sex-crimes-yonhap-2024-09-02/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">Reuters report</a>, will focus on whether <a href="https://coinedition.com/telegrams-crypto-ambitions-inside-the-new-mini-app-store-and-web3-browser/">Telegram</a> facilitated the distribution of sexually explicit deepfake content. This development follows the recent arrest of Telegram founder Pavel Durov in France on charges related to the platform’s handling of illegal activities. 
Telegram, headquartered in Dubai, has nearly one billion users worldwide. Although officials at the National Police Agency’s cyber investigation bureau declined to comment, South Korean <a href="https://coinedition.com/south-korea-delays-crypto-tax-to-2028-what-investors-need-to-know/">authorities</a> have reportedly urged Telegram and other social media platforms to help combat the spread of sexually explicit deepfake content.
