Bitcoin has attracted a star-studded endorsement in the form of Mariah Carey.

The iconic singer has announced that she is partnering with Gemini, an exchange run by billionaire twins Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss.

Carey posted a video to her 10 million followers on Instagram, where she revealed that she invests in BTC through their platform.

But the real clincher that could grab the attention of her fans is the inclusion of a referral code that offers a reward of $20 in Bitcoin for those who sign up to the trading platform.

During the clip, Carey also stresses that consumers don’t need to buy a whole Bitcoin in order to gain exposure to the cryptocurrency — and an investment can be made with as little as $5.

A Significant Endorsement

Earlier this year, we saw Kim Kardashian West attract the ire of some regulators after endorsing Ethereum Max — a little-known cryptocurrency.

But a Morning Consult poll has revealed that everyday investors really pay attention to sponsored posts issued by A-listers, with 20% of respondents saying that this would persuade them to invest in a digital asset.

It could be argued that Carey’s endorsement is ill timed, as it comes when Bitcoin is on the brink of hitting record highs.

This could result in a number of inexperienced investors opting to gain exposure to the digital currency when its price is at its peak.
