Worldcoin (WLD), the blockchain-based identity and financial platform founded by OpenAI’s Sam Altman, has unveiled an upgraded version of its World ID feature, known as "World ID 2.0," which introduces seamless integration with popular platforms including Shopify, Mercado Libre, Reddit, and Telegram. This integration allows users to verify their humanness when engaging with these platforms.

The recent announcement highlighted World ID 2.0 as the “human passport for the internet,” and explained that these new app integrations complement the existing ones, such as Discord, Talent Protocol, and Okta's Auth0. World ID 2.0 also offers app developers the flexibility to choose from various levels of authentication, ranging from "lite" to "max."

According to Worldcoin, there are 3 authentication levels that offer users more options to utilize their World ID across casual applications and high security ones, ensuring that individuals do not disclose more information than necessary. For instance, applications demanding high security may mandate an orb-verified ID, whereas applications focused on convenience might only necessitate a "Device Auth" World ID linked to the user's mobile phone.

Worldcoin asserts that these new features will help mitigate losses caused by bots, eliminating the need for users to share their personal information with the applications they use.

Since its launch, over 2.6 million users have verified their World ID. However, Worldcoin has faced controversy surrounding its privacy practices, with countries like Argentina and the U.K. launching investigations. The World ID 2.0 rollout will continue throughout 2024.
