Mila Kunis is getting involved in a new adult, animated series powered by NFTs.

Last year, the A-lister launched Stoner Cats, which told the surreal story of five cats who get high after their owner’s medical marijuana falls into a fireplace.

Now, Kunis is collaborating with a Web3 animation studio to launch The Gimmicks — a "South Park Meets WWE" show about washed-up wrestlers who are battling to regain their status.

The Gimmicks claims to be the first series that uses NFTs to give fans a chance to participate in the development of storylines and characters — and at the end of each show, viewers who own official non-fungible tokens will get to influence future episodes and character arcs.

Ex-WWE stars Luke "Doc" Gallows, Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson, FKA Enzo Amore and Rocky Romero make up the animation's all-star cast.

Reaching the 'Crypto Curious'

Sixth Wall — a blockchain entertainment company co-founded by Kunis — is teaming up with the Web3 animation studio Toonstar to bring The Gimmicks to life, and the Solana blockchain will be used to mint official NFTs. Kunis said:

"Toonstar absolutely gets the ridiculously fast nature of creating in Web3. They are able to make animation at unprecedented speed while also managing creative community elements; I can't wait for people to come and engage in the fun."

And John Attanasio, the CEO and co-founder of Toonstar, said blockchain technology unlocks a chance to engage with the community "in ways never possible before," adding:

"As veterans in the animation industry, we know how invested the audience can get in storylines and characters."

The new animated series hopes to reach the "crypto curious" by ensuring NFTs are free to mint — and they'll be available to the public through The Gimmicks website on March 18.

In a news release, Toonstar and Sixth Wall touted the fact that the Solana blockchain is more environmentally conscious than other networks — and claimed "the minting of one NFT takes less energy than two Google searches or one Instagram post."

Sixth Wall boasts an all-female team — and their Stoner Cats NFT collection ended up selling out in 35 minutes flat, bringing congestion to the Ethereum blockchain. Data from Dune Analytics suggests that 344.4 ETH ended up being dropped on failed transactions. In a video released after the sale, Kunis said:

"Thank you so much for believing in this entire crazy concept and idea, and being a part of it. It has been a whirlwind and we are so excited to continue down this journey with all of you. We're so sorry that we broke Ethereum … but also, f*** it."

Toonstar says it uses proprietary technology that delivers high-quality animation that is 50 times faster than the industry standard — and currently has the #1 animated series on Snap Discover, amassing 300 million monthly views.
