"Why is that? Why don’t we love the product we've built so much that we use it all the time? The simple truth is, if we don't love it, how can we expect our users to love it?"

A damning report suggests that Meta's flagship metaverse is suffering from persistent quality issues.

According to The Verge, the problems overshadowing Horizon Worlds mean that "even the team building it isn't using it very much."

Leaked memos suggest that the tech giant's VP of metaverse, Vishal Shah, has put the team responsible for this virtual world on "quality lockdown" for the rest of the year.

It's hoped that performance issues will be properly tackled before Horizon is opened to more users.

This is especially embarrassing considering that the metaverse is now a crucial part of Mark Zuckerberg's strategy.

It's been almost a year since the CEO announced Facebook's name was changing to Meta.

According to the news outlet, Shah wrote:

"Currently feedback from our creators, users, playtesters, and many of us on the team is that the aggregate weight of papercuts, stability issues, and bugs is making it too hard for our community to experience the magic of Horizon."

And confronted with the reality that his own team aren't using Horizon Worlds that much, he asked:

"Why is that? Why don’t we love the product we've built so much that we use it all the time? The simple truth is, if we don't love it, how can we expect our users to love it?"

Zuckerberg has promised to unveil "major updates" to Horizon Worlds at a conference that's due to begin tomorrow.

Developers have now been tasked with using Horizon at least once a week — and have been told to enhance the onboarding experience so a user's "first visit is a success."

A Meta spokesperson told The Verge that the tech giant remains "confident that the metaverse is the future of computing and that it should be built around people."
