Arkham Intelligence, a crypto on-chain analytics platform, has come under fire for launching a bounty program that incentivizes people to reveal the identities behind anonymous or pseudonymous wallet addresses.

Dubbed “DOX-to-Earn” by critics, anyone can set rewards in the program for disclosing the individuals hidden behind a specific crypto address.

The programme is marketed by Arkham as a tool for traders to acquire financial information and track out those responsible for cryptocurrency thefts and exploits. However, some have expressed doubts about the veracity and applicability of labels uploaded to the site as well as the possibility of the identities of regular individuals being revealed.

Arkham CEO Miguel Morel defended the programme during a Twitter Spaces event by claiming that most public blockchains currently function with a lack of privacy by default. He emphasized that because transactions are broadcast to a decentralized network of millions of users, publicly accessible blockchains are not a secure solution to maintain the secrecy of personal information.

Since its release less than a year ago, Arkham has been the subject of numerous controversies. Morel asserted that the market will not be entirely free and that Arkham would not permit all bounties or address labels on its platform. He continued by saying that Arkham's long-term goal is to transfer authority over bounty moderation to a larger community.
