Weirdly, Bitcoin isn’t mentioned at all in the Coin Cloud ad, which was filmed around Wall Street.
Spike Lee has directed and starred in a brand-new commercial promoting crypto.
The award-winning actor created the advert for Coin Cloud, a crypto ATM provider.
Weirdly, Bitcoin isn’t mentioned at all in the two-minute spot, which was filmed around Wall Street.
Instead, Lee focuses on the lack of diversity seen in fiat — pointing out how only white men appear on U.S. banknotes. He says:
“Our currency is not current. Old money, as rich as it looks, is flat out broke. Don’t believe me? I got receipts. They call it green, there’s only white. Where’s the women? The black folks? And the people of color? Native Americans got a nickel — a nickel!”
Lee went on to point out that seven million Americans have no bank account, and 20 million are underbanked:
“Old money is not going to pick us up — it pushes us down, exploits, systematically oppresses.”
‘Do Your Own Research’
In the ad, Lee stresses that consumers should do their own research, but declares: “The digital revolution is here… old money is out!”
And as a banknote bursts into flames, shots of a crypto ATM are shown — featuring consumers of all ages using one of the machines.
Unveiling the ad, Coin Cloud said the campaign was designed to spark “important dialogue” and introduce marginalized communities to a new way of taking control of their wealth. Meanwhile, Spike Lee added:
"Digital currency is viable for not just people of color, but anybody who has been historically excluded from traditional financial systems."
