'Ungrateful Scum': Bitcoin.org Hit By 'Absolutely Massive' DDoS Attack

Things appear to be going from bad to worse for Cøbra, the pseudonymous operator of Bitcoin.org.

On Twitter, they said that the website is “getting hit with an absolutely massive DDoS attack and a ransom demand to send Bitcoin or they’ll continue.”

Distributed denial of service attacks typically involve flooding a website with too much traffic, causing it to crash and become inaccessible to everyday users. Cøbra added:

“I don’t think I’ve been this offended in a while. Ungrateful scum.”

A Week to Forget

The DDoS attack comes a week after Bitcoin.org was ordered to take down the BTC whitepaper in the U.K. by a British court.

Craig Wright, the Australian entrepreneur who claims to be Satoshi Nakamoto, won a default judgment after accusing the website of copyright infringement.

Cøbra reacted furiously following the default judgment.

Explaining the rationale behind Wright’s legal action, senior associate Simon Cohen told the CoinMarketRecap podcast:

“Dr Wright is entitled to protect his intellectual property rights in the whitepaper as the author of it … He did write to the operator of the website, Cøbra, and asked them to take the whitepaper down. Unfortunately, Cøbra refused.”
