Trust Wallet, a popular web3 wallet, has issued a warning to Apple users, urging them to disable iMessage due to "credible intel" regarding a zero-day exploit. The company shared the alert on X, stating that the exploit, which is being sold on the Dark Web, could potentially allow hackers to take control of users' iPhones without the need for any link-clicking. Trust Wallet emphasized that high-value account holders are particularly at risk.
A zero-day exploit refers to a cyberattack that exploits an unknown or unaddressed security vulnerability in computer software or hardware. Trust Wallet stressed that all crypto wallets stored on iPhones with iMessage enabled are vulnerable to this exploit.Eowyn Chen, the CEO of Trust Wallet, shared a screenshot that allegedly shows a potential zero-day exploit being offered for sale at a price of $2 million on the Dark Web.
The Trust Wallet team recommends users to disable iMessages until Apple releases a security patch. While some in the community raised skepticism about the validity of the intel, Trust Wallet stated that their “intel comes from our security team and partners constantly checking for threats” and they “are one of, if not the, most active crypto wallet social accounts in the space and we always alert our users of any threats.”

Apple has recently released emergency security updates to address two zero-day vulnerabilities exploited in attacks on iPhones last month. iMessage has been previously targeted by hackers as an attack vector, as noted by security researchers at Kaspersky.
